I’m from Ranchi. Office is in Chembur. Thinking of renting in Kalyan or Ulhasnagar to save money. Worth it or stupid idea?

Recently shifted from Ranchi for job. Office location is Chembur.
Mumbai rent is insane, so I was thinking maybe stay in Kalyan or Ulhasnagar.
Rent is much cheaper there. Is daily travel manageable or should I just rent in Mumbai and cry every month while paying rent?

Bro… Kalyan to Chembur daily?
Do you hate yourself or what?
Morning fast train + peak crowd = character development arc you didn’t ask for.

I stay Kalyan and go Kurla side. Travel is very very tiring.
First month its ok ok. After that body pain, headache, no life.
Saving money but losing health.

From a purely cost–benefit perspective, renting in Kalyan or Ulhasnagar may reduce rental outflow, but the commute to Chembur will significantly impact productivity and well-being.
A daily travel time exceeding 3.5–4 hours round trip is generally unsustainable in the long run.

Boss listen, Kalyan is not “Mumbai lite”, it’s full commitment. Once you miss one train, your whole day is gone. Better take something in Tilak Nagar or even Govandi side, adjust a bit.

Bhai simple logic hai.
Time > money.
Tu 20k bachake 3 ghante roz local mein khada rahega? Not worth it yaar.

But isn’t Kalyan well connected? Trains are frequent no?
I thought once you get used to locals it’s manageable?

Yes, very manageable. You’ll just age 5 years in 6 months. Totally fine.

Why jumping straight to Kalyan?
Check Vashi or Sanpada. Rent slightly higher but commute sane. Harbour line is less soul-crushing.

I did Ulhasnagar to CST and then office for one year. Saved money, yes, but also permanently lost interest in “Mumbai spirit” slogans.

Calculate properly:
– Train pass
– Auto/metro
– Food outside because you reach home tired
– Doctor bills eventually
Your cheap rent stops being cheap.

If first job, pls stay near office. Mumbai is already tough city. Long travel will make you quit job not house. Do your own research and check for cheaper flats in nearby areas in the first year.

First learn the city. Live closer for 1 year. Later if you feel confident then go far to save money.

Yes, people do Kalyan–Chembur. No, they don’t enjoy it. So your call.
